The course aims to provide students with research opportunities and extra research skills needed in the sport and exercise workforce. The course aims to better prepare students for the workforce since understanding research can make up a large component of on-job requirements. Graduates will also be in a workplace position of understanding and utilising research opportunities to enhance their industry and generate income.
The course is designed for students refine their interest in Sport Studies and experience the foundations of higher research degrees. The course provides a clear pathway for students keen to enrol in higher degree awards by research, and to prepare them to gain entry to these degrees by strengthening their knowledge and research skills through supervised independent study and research work. The aim is to induct groups of students into a research-rich culture.
Learning outcomes of the course
Students will be able to:
- source and critically appraise research in an identified Sports Studies research field;
- design and execute a research project to a standard acceptable to their field of study;
- undertake an independent analysis of data relating their research project to existing literature and a wider societal relevance;
- communicate the results of an independent research project in a form acceptable to the field of study.

Course Duration
Standard two semesters full-time or equivalent.Maximum four semesters.
Admission Requirements
Admission to this course will be based on:
- an undergraduate degree in a relevant sports studies discipline or related area; and
- credit or better grade point average (i.e. GPA of > 5.0).
Admission will be limited by the availability of suitable supervisor(s), equipment and resources. In the case of the number of applications exceeding research opportunities, admission to the honours program will be reviewed on a competitive basis.
