This course is designed to extend the research skills of students who have demonstrated merit in their undergraduate course. The Bachelor of Philosophy Honours course is designed to allow students to progress to higher degrees by research and prepare them for employment. Students from anywhere in the University (and from outside the University) who meet the entry requirements can apply for the Bachelor of Philosophy Honours program and students within the Faculty of Business and Government can apply into the Bachelor of Philosophy Honours program in the areas of their undergraduate specialisation - Applied Economics, Building and Construction Management, Business Administration, Commerce, Management, Politics and International Relations, Tourism Management and Urban and Regional Planning. The Bachelor of Philosophy Honours program includes an Honours Research Colloquium, an Honours Research thesis written with the guidance of an academic supervisor and coursework in research methods.

Learning outcomes:
- to provide an in-depth understanding of research methods;
- provide an advanced understanding of honours level research culture;
- develop the ability to execute a major independent research project.

Course Duration

2 semesters full time or equivalent part time.

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the course, applicants require:
- completion of an undergraduate degree in an area relevant to their proposed program of study within the previous five years and Credit+ average over the last two years of the Bachelor's degree; or equivalent;
- evidence of having performed in some subjects relevant to the proposed study at Distinction level or above; and
- academic judgement that the student can be expected to achieve an Honours level in the course.

Additional requirements:
Students must submit a Research proposal with their application.

Requirements for degree with Honours:
Qualifying students will be awarded an Honours award on the basis of their bachelor degree and thesis topic. Students may apply to be awarded the Bachelor of Philosophy (Honours) degree.
First Class Honours is awarded to students who have both a GPA of at least 6 and an exceptional performance in the honours thesis component of their assessment: Second Class - Division 1: both a GPA of at least 5.25 and a very good performance in the honours thesis component of their assessment; Second Class - Division 2: both a GPA of at least 4.5 and a good performance in the Honours thesis component of their assessment and Third Class: both a GPA of at least 4 and an adequate performance in their Honours thesis component of their assessment.
