Introduction

The objective of the Postgraduate Diploma in Health Research is to enhance research pathways and increase the research capability of students in the Faculty of Health and students requiring an understanding of basic research methods, with the intention of enhancing their capacity to undertake higher degrees by research.

The course will incorporate lectures, online and tutorial sessions to provide students with the necessary research skills for admission to a doctoral level postgraduate research program.

On completion of the Postgraduate Diploma in Health Research students will be competent in developing an answerable research question, planning a research project, developing an ethics proposal, and undertaking a systematic literature review.

24 credit points comprising:

(a) Required (15 credit points) as follows:
7513 Design of Clinical Research Trials G
6486 Research Planning PG
6998 Developing a Research Project PG
6997 Research Design for Health Practitioners PG
3426 Special Research Topics PG

(b) Restricted choice (6 credit points) as follows:
Students will choose two of the following units:
7514 Conduct of Clinical Research Trials G
7223 Research Methods for Health Practitioners PG
or other PG units as approved by the course convener.

(c) Open electives (3 credit points) as follows:
Open elective to be determined in consultation with the course convener.

Course Duration

Standard duration two semesters full-time or equivalent. Maximum eight semesters.

Students can commence the course in semester 1 only.

The Graduate Certificate in Health Research is subsumable into this course.
