Introduction

The Master of Nutrition provides students with an advanced program in nutrition. The range of nutrition and food-related units from graduate level nutrition units to advanced specialist units and research opportunities provides for a diversity of graduates from biomedical and nutrition sciences to develop a program of study tailored to their professional development needs. Students may, for example, choose to include in their study program a focus on a nutrition specialty area, such as sports nutrition and physical activity or public health nutrition, with a focus on health promotion or issues around food and the environment; or develop research skills and undertake a research project. The course is designed for students who are, or intend to work, in environments relating to food, nutrition or health.

Students may select G or PG level units from relevant multi-disciplinary areas that form a coherent study plan (eg in marketing, health promotion, clinical trials management etc).

Students who have studied any of the units listed above at undergraduate level in other courses may be exempted from these units, but are required to study elective units approved by the course convener.

Course Duration

Standard four semesters full-time or equivalent. Maximum twelve semesters.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must meet normal University requirements for admission to a master's degree course or hold qualifications deemed by the University to be equivalent. Applicants should also have satisfactorily completed the equivalent of a full year of human physiology and biochemistry and at least two nutrition units.

Additional admission requirement:
An overall Academic IELTS band score of 7.0 with no component less than 6.

Additional requirements:
Police checks will be required if 8659 Public Health Nutrition Internship PG is chosen as a restricted choice unit.

Approved Credit arrangements.

Students are not permitted to undertake more than 12 credit points of cross-institutional studies. Approval to undertake cross institutional units that are available at UC with a similar curriculum and content will not be granted, except in exceptional circumstances. Students are advised to seek course advice and permission from the course convener prior to negotiating or organising cross institutional studies at another University.
