Introduction

The Master of Landscape Architecture is a graduate course designed to provide entry into the Landscape Architecture profession. The course has a unique emphasis on Canberra as a landscape 'laboratory' where real-world projects and speculative design scenarios are critically interrogated and explored.

This course combines design, research and professional industry experience as part of a focused curriculum. Students work in an interdisciplinary learning environment to understand and respond to the complex social, political and cultural implications of built environment design. Graduates of the course are equipped with a range of high-level technical, analytical, design and communication skills necessary to formulate solutions to contemporary challenges.

Full-time domestic students in this course may be eligible for student income support in the form of Youth Allowance, Austudy or Pensioner Education Supplement.

The Learning outcomes of the course:
- Students will be able to:
- take advantage of studying in Canberra as a world recognised 20th century landscape urbanism experiment to develop expertise in related themes of study.
- communicate complex design ideas via a comprehensive range of visual, written and verbal skills. There will be an emphasis on their ability to present themselves and their work in professional situations.
- Students will have:
- an appreciation of design as research and will be equipped to contribute confidently to research in their own profession and in other design and planning fields.
- an understanding of related design professions and their contribution to landscape architecture and will be competent to work in multi-disciplinary environments.
- Students will be able to:
- demonstrate their understanding of landscape architecture professional practice and the ethical responsibilities of the profession to society and the environment.
- demonstrate a deep understanding of sustainability issues in the context of landscape design and urbanism.
