Master of Industrial Design (121JA)
Faculty of Arts and Design
This course will provide students with a high level of research expertise in Industrial Design over a broad spectrum of topics together with the opportunity for an intense and professional work experience program.
The course addresses methods of design research, superior communication skills using advanced software, the realities of commercial design and the imperatives of sustainability in our threatened world. Advanced materials technology and contemporary manufacturing processes are also covered.
Successful graduates will have the intellectual and practical skills they need to succeed in a competitive design environment. Industry and professional practice requires advanced level graduates who are capable of progressing seamlessly to responsible leadership positions in design.
This course is a unique Australian Masters by coursework program. It is a stand-alone course that also builds on the Bachelor of Industrial Design offered by the University of Canberra and other equivalent undergraduate industrial design courses.
The curriculum provides students with the opportunity to undertake a major project through a related suite of four semester-long studios that develop students in-depth knowledge of one element of design, eg design for manufacture, or to undertake four discrete projects that will add to their knowledge base in an industrial design field of their choice, eg interaction design or service e-design.
