The Graduate Diploma in Strategic Procurement has been designed to develop the professional management competencies of current and future leaders in strategic procurement, who seek to enhance their career prospects in business and government organisations, locally, nationally and internationally. The course focuses on total lifecycle approaches to strategic procurement.

The Graduate Diploma studies include core procurement subjects such as business law and project management, and also critical areas of increasing strategic importance to industry, government and society, such as sustainable procurement and risk management.

The student learning experience includes case studies and work-integrated learning opportunities based on the Universitys unique relationships with government and industry, so that students can directly apply their theoretical and practical understanding in the workplace. The course is presented in a range of teaching formats including lectures, tutorials, seminars and workshops. It is offered in mainstream and flexible delivery modes including intensive weekend delivery, and most units are also available online.

The course has been developed in consultation with the Australian Procurement and Construction Council, key agencies in the Commonwealth, state and territory and local governments, and industry, to ensure its relevance to the local, national and international business environments. There is a critical and increasing need, nationally and globally, for highly educated procurement professionals. The course is being accredited by the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply and other professional bodies to ensure that graduates will have an internationally recognised professional qualification.

Articulation to the MBA in Strategic Procurement is availble by enrolling in four additional units.

Learning outcomes:
- capability to plan and manage the delivery of efficient, effective and ethical strategies over the procurement lifecycle to achieve value for money in diverse and complex work environments.
- understanding and capability to apply the principles and practices of sustainability in strategic procurement.
acquire an understanding of strategic procurement theory and practice, including for the identification, management and mitigation of risk over the procurement lifecycle.
- capability to apply creative, innovative and ethical approaches to the management of strategic procurement in public and private sector organisations.

Course Requirements

24 credit points comprising:
(a) Required (15 credit points) as follows:

(b) Restricted choice (6 credit points) as follows:
Students will choose one of the following pairs of units, or other units as approved by the course convener:
6264 Organisational Behaviour G and
7777 Organisational Performance G
or
6234 Economics for Managers G and
6241 International Business G

(c) Open elective (3 credit points) as follows:
Students will choose one 3 credit point open elective from anywhere in the University.

Course Duration

Standard two semesters full-time or equivalent. Maximum eight semesters.

Admission Requirements

Undergraduate degree and two years relevant work experience or equivalent as approved by the University Admissions Committee, or completion of the Graduate Certificate in Strategic Procurement.

Additional requirements:
Police check may be required for some work placements.

Professional Recognition

The new course will be put forward for accreditation by the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (an internationally recognised accreditation), and by other relevant professional organisations in the procurement and construction sectors.

Subsumable awards

The Graduate Certificate in Strategic Procurement is subsumable into this course. This course is subsumable into the Master of Business Administration in Strategic Procurement.
