Introduction

The Bachelor of Arts in Landscape degree offers a foundation in the theory and practice of landscape architecture. Students will engage with the values, knowledge and skills central to the design and management of sustainable built environments and open space systems. Students will have the advantage of learning from and contributing to Australia's National Capital, Canberra - an internationally recognised exemplar of a designed landscape city.

The Bachelor of Environmental Science provides flexible, innovative and integrated study into resources and environmental issues both of a global nature and unique to Australia.

By participating in a range of landscape architecture and environmental science studies and activities, students in the double degree develop a broad understanding of the cultural, social, environmental and economic issues associated with landscape design and management. The degree equips students with a range of critical and creative skills essential to work in multidisciplinary firms that deal with complex environmental planning and management issues.

The Bachelor of Arts in Landscape, Bachelor of Environmental Science also offers the basis for admission to the two year Master of Landscape Architecture degree for students wishing to become registered as a Landscape Architect.

Learning outcomes of the course:
students will be able to:
- demonstrate a language of landscape architecture necessary to contribute to the multidisciplinary nature of the profession;
- contribute to the growth of landscape architecture by articulating best practice in a complex global economy.

students will have an awareness of:
- global social economic and environmental challenges;
- the importance of integration of environmental systems and processes in the management of built and natural landscapes;
- the creative capacity of landscape architecture to confront these challenges.

students will have highly developed skills in:
- collaborative and strategic problem solving through multi disciplinary learning;
- articulating landscape architects contribution to complex design challenges involving multiple stake holders.

students will make a positive contribution to:
- meeting global climate change challenges through the conservation and management of urban and non-urban landscapes;
- a socially just, environmentally responsible and culturally diverse society.
