Committee of University Council
Established at Council meeting no. 110 on 6 December 2006 – Resolution C110/10.
Purpose
The Committee:
- Supports Council in exercising its governance responsibilities by providing advice on the appointment of members to Council and special selection committees, the contract parameters for the position of Vice-Chancellor, recruitment procedures for the Vice-Chancellor and other specified members of the senior executive and the performance of the Vice-Chancellor; and
- Exercises governance responsibilities on behalf of Council in determining the remuneration, conditions of employment and recruitment procedures for senior executive positions determined by Council.
Terms of Reference
The Committee advises Council on:
- candidates for consideration by the Chief Minister for appointment and re-appointment to Council under section 11(1)(d) of the University of Canberra Act 1989 (ACT);
- candidates for appointment and re-appointment to the positions of Chancellor and Deputy Chancellor;
- the appropriate knowledge and skills mix of Council membership, taking into account the National Governance Protocols and the requirements of section 11A of the University of Canberra Act 1989;
- any policy matters regarding the membership of Council, including the remuneration of members of Council;
- the membership of special selection committees;
- recruitment procedures for the position of Vice-Chancellor and other members of the senior executive determined by Council;
- contract parameters for the position of Vice-Chancellor; and
- the performance of the Vice-Chancellor.
The Committee determines, on the delegated authority of Council:
- remuneration, conditions of employment and recruitment procedures for senior executive positions determined by Council

Meeting Dates
This Committee only meets as required. (Meeting scheduled for Friday 19 November 2010 in pm to consider performance appraisals). The Committee meets jointly with the Honorary Degree Committee.

Members will be appointed by Council and will hold office for two years, or in the case of student members, one year. Members may be appointed for an additional term. Membership will be staggered. Subject to Council’s approval the committee may co-opt an advisory member to ensure an appropriate level of expertise or gender representation.
