Committee of Academic Board

Purpose and Function

To ensure that the academic standards of the University of Canberra College are consistent with those of the University of Canberra and relevant external standards, and contribute to the delivery of high quality courses.

Membership

  • Pro Vice-Chancellor (International & Major Projects) (1 member)
  • Chair of the Academic Board of the University or nominee (1 member)
  • Academic Director, University of Canberra College (1 member)
  • Dean of Students, University of Canberra or nominee (1 member)
  • Director of Studies, University of Canberra English Language Institute (UCELI) or nominee (1 member)
  • Director, University of Canberra Student Administration or nominee (1 member)
  • Senior Program Coordinator, University of Canberra College (1 member)
  • One student representative who is a currently enrolled student of the College (1 member)

Total - 8 members

(Except as specified above the Committee may not make arrangements for alternates but may make co-option arrangements for members with specific expertise).

Chair

Pro Vice-Chancellor (International & Major Projects) - ex officio

Deputy Chair

Appointed by the Committee from amongst the members of the Committee.

Method of appointment

  • Pro Vice-Chancellor (International & Major Projects) - ex officio
  • Chair of the Academic Board of the University - ex officio or nominee
  • Academic Director, University of Canberra College - ex officio
  • Dean of Students, University of Canberra - ex officio or nominee
  • Director of Studies, University of Canberra English Language Institute (UCELI) - ex officio or nominee
  • Director, University of Canberra Student Administration - ex officio or nominee
  • Senior Program Coordinator, University of Canberra College - ex officio
  • One student representative - selected by the students of the College

Period of office

Where appropriate half the nominees (other than the student representative who is to be appointed for a one year term) should be changed every two years to ensure continuity.

Such members can be re-appointed but only for one additional term though members can serve further, non-consecutive, terms.

Secretariat arrangements

Secretary provided by the Administration, University of Canberra College.

The Secretary should maintain minutes of meetings of the Committee and a record of reports and associated material as part of the official College and University records.

Quorum

A quorum consists of a majority of members.

Where there is no quorum the Committee may still meet to ensure that the work of Committee continues.

Any recommendations made at such meetings would need to be endorsed by a subsequent meeting where a quorum was present.

Schedule of meetings

Normally meets at least twice each year - February and June.

The Committee should not meet unless there is sufficient business to warrant a meeting being held

Notes

The Committee may establish sub-committees to assist its work.

The Committee may establish working parties to consider specific issues.

Academic Board should be advised where the Committee establishes sub-committees.
