Diploma Program

For International Students

University of Canberra College Diplomas consist of three terms of full time study, spread over one calendar year, On successful completion of the Diploma you will be granted direct entry into the second year of the University of Canberra degree program in the area of your specialisation, so you will complete your diploma plus degree in three years.

Why should I consider studying for a diploma?

You should consider a Diploma from the University of Canberra College:

  • If you don't meet the normal academic requirements for direct entry to the University of Canberra.
  • If you don't have strong English language skills.
  • If you are concerned about coping with university study and feel you will benefit from the smaller class sizes and additional academic support provided at UC College.
  • If you wish to fast track your studies by completing your university preparation and the first year of your degree in one calendar year.
  • If you wish to gain a diploma awarded by the University of Canberra College as a professional qualification that is also recognised by the University of Canberra for entry with advanced standing into their undergraduate courses.

Contact hours 

There are six contact hours per week in all English subjects, and three to six hours per week in other subjects. This is significantly more contact hours than university studies. In addition, students may schedule individual contact time with their tutors to discuss progress and to review their learning needs.

Assessment methods

During each term you will be required to complete a number of assessment tasks for each of your subjects. Possible tasks may include essays, oral presentations, research reports, in-class tests and group assignments. At the end of each term you will sit for a formal exam in most of your subjects.
