Sally Redhead, Bachelor of Interior Design

“I enrolled in the Advanced Diploma of Interior Design at CIT with the knowledge that it fed into the Bachelor of Interior Design at the University of Canberra. While the advanced diploma is a well recognised tertiary qualification, it was in my best interest to further my studies with a UC degree, as it has given me a cutting-edge advantage in the design industry. The progression into the Bachelor of Interior Design could be easily achieved through the articulation agreement.

In design it is important to have an overall perspective of industry. This includes successful communication, creative and technical skills, an understanding of the marketplace, and practice management. Through studying at both institutions, I believe that I acheived a balance of this knowledge. CIT provides excellent fundamental design and technical skills and this is complemented by the more theoretical, conceptual and lateral thinking taught at UC. I believe this has maximised my potential as a designer.

The CIT experience was definitely beneficial in the way of being industry ready. In particular, the program included a ten-week work experience component which I completed with local architecture firm Daryl Jackson Alastair Swayn (DJAS). This experience greatly developed my knowledge of the industry and I was fortunate enough to continue working part-time for DJAS through my final year at UC. I graduated with a Bachelor of Interior Design in December 2005. I am now employed full-time by Daryl Jackson Alastair Swayn” - Sally Redhead.
