Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply?

Completion of a diploma or advanced diploma at CIT guarantees you an offer of a place in an undergraduate degree at the University of Canberra. However, you must apply through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC)

What is credit transfer/articulation?

Credit transfer, or articulation as it is currently called at UC, is based on approved arrangements for credit in a UC course on the basis of completion of a specific course at CIT. Credit transfer may allow you to complete your new program of study in less time than normal and eliminate or minimise the need for you to repeat study for learning outcomes and skills you have already achieved. CIT has negotiated formal credit transfer arrangements with the University of Canberra. Many CIT diplomas and advanced diplomas articulate into UC courses with substantial amounts of credit transfer. Definition of other key terms relating to credit transfer can be found here.

What does my CIT diploma or advanced diploma mean in terms of a guaranteed place at UC?

Completion of a diploma or advanced diploma at CIT guarantees you an offer of a place in an undergraduate degree at the University of Canberra. You are guaranteed a place in an undergraduate degree, not necessarily in the degree of your choice. A high grade point average at CIT will improve your chances of an offer into the degree of your choice.

Are there UC courses that require a credit average at CIT?

A credit average at CIT is not required for entry into UC. However, a credit average at CIT or a credit grade in specific CIT subjects may affect your advanced standing at UC. For example, graduates of the Advanced Diploma of Building Design who have a credit average or better for the final semester building design studio subjects at CIT will automatically receive 36 credit points advanced standing for specified units in the  Bachelor of Arts in Architecture. Graduates of the advanced diploma who do not have a credit average or better for the final semester building design studio subjects at CIT may still be awarded, on an individual basis, up to 36 credit points of advanced standing.

You can use the search on this website to find out the credit transfer arrangements for the program you are interested in.

What will my study program be?

Some credit transfer arrangements specify exactly which UC units your CIT diploma or advanced diploma give credit for. So, to find out what units to study and when, simply refer to the UC Handbook and discount any units you will receive credit for.

If the credit transfer arrangements for your chosen course of study do not specify exactly which UC units your CIT diploma or advanced diploma give credit for, you will need to discuss this with your Course Convenor at UC.

You can use the search on this website to find out the credit transfer arrangements for the program you are interested in.

How do I find my Course Convenor?

Course Convenors can be found by searching by course here.

When will my credit be transferred from CIT to my UC academic record?

Credit will be awarded once the university receives confirmation from CIT that you have completed your diploma or advanced diploma. Contact UC Student Services with any queries about credit transfer.

If I receive credit for units at UC, will they appear on my degree academic transcript?

Yes, the units will appear on your UC academic transcript, graded AS – Advanced Standing.

Have other students done this before?

If you want to find out about the experience of students who have articulated in previous years, check out the testimonials on this website.

I completed the Pre-Tertiary Studies program at CIT, can I articulate?

Pre-Tertiary Studies is designed to prepare you to study for a degree at University. It does not give you any credit into an undergraduate degree program. However, if you also have other experience you can apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Pre-Tertiary Studies graduates generally find they have received good preparation for studying a degree at UC.

What if I am a UC student going to CIT?

You can apply for Recognition at CIT for previous study at UC.

What is the difference between the two arrangements between the Diploma of Children's Services and the Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Teaching?

If you are enrolled in the joint program you study both qualifications concurrently over 4 years. If you are enrolled only in the CIT diploma, you will need to apply to enter the degree when you have finished your diploma and you will receive 24 credit points advanced standing (equal to 1 year full-time study) and be able to complete the degree in 3 years, meaning that your total program of study is 5 years.

Is it possible to go on to a graduate certificate if you have a diploma or advanced diploma?

Yes, if you have the required amount of work experience, which is currently 4 years if you have an advanced diploma or 8 years if you have a diploma.
