Profile:
Professor Duncan was appointed to the position of Director at NATSEM in March 2010, having spent the previous ten years at the Nottingham School of Economics, University of Nottingham, first as Reader (from 1999 to 2001) and then as Professor of Microeconomics (from 2001). Professor Duncan was appointed to a number of administrative roles at Nottingham, as Director of Research, Deputy Head of School and finally Head of School (from 2008). Prior to this, Professor Duncan held positions at the University of York, the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) and the Centre for Microdata Methods and Practice (Cemmap) where he is currently Research Fellow.

Professor Duncan has a range of research interests within the fields of welfare program evaluation, the analysis of work incentives, static and behavioural tax microsimulation, econometric models of labour supply, labour market and welfare programme participation, modelling childcare use and the impact of childcare policies, poverty and poverty alleviation, semiparametric and nonparametric estimation methods. He has published widely in some of the top journals in these fields, with recent articles in Econometrica, Economic Journal, European Economic Review, Journal of Human Resources, Journal of Applied Econometrics and Fiscal Studies. In 2000, Professor Duncan was awarded the Frisch Medal of the Econometric Society for the best applied economics article to be published in the journal Econometrica during the previous five years.
