Visiting fellowships to Australia

NATSEM is offering up to two visiting fellowships a year to international academics and professionals keen to further their research in the field of microsimulation.  Each Fellowship is valued at up to $10,500 and consists of:

  • Reimbursable travel expenses including economy air travel up to a maximum of A$5250; and
  • up to $650 a week (unless otherwise agreed) for living expenses to a maximum of $5250.

The Visiting Fellow would normally spend between two to eight weeks working at NATSEM on a mutually agreed area of research.

The outcomes of the Fellowship would include:

  • at least one research paper on an aspect of microsimulation modelling, preferably in collaboration with NATSEM academic(s), to be published in the NATSEM Working Paper Series and subsequently in a refereed journal with due acknowledgement of the Fellowship;
  • at least one NATSEM research seminar for interested members of the broader research community; and
  • participation in NATSEM collegial activities during the period of the Fellowship.

NATSEM will provide host the Visiting Fellow at its campus in Canberra, Australia, providing research and office support services such as computing, internet and library facilities. Fellows will be responsible for organising their own travel and accommodation arrangements unless otherwise agreed.

Selection

Selection is based on the relevance of the applicant’s research proposal to NATSEM’s research agenda and on their ability to contribute to NATSEM’s research profile.  We are interested in applications from both highly experienced through to early career (post doctoral) researchers.

Application

Applications are invited from overseas academic and government researchers working in microsimulation and related disciplines from around the world. To apply, applicants must send a letter of application indicating the area they wish to research under the Fellowship, a current curriculum vitae and their preferred timing to undertake the Fellowship.  Final timing of a Fellowship may be subject negotiation based on the availability of NATSEM resources and key staff for the proposed visit.

 Applications should be sent to:

Professor Ann Harding       Email: ann.harding@canberra.edu.au

Applications to undertake the Fellowship in 2009 must be received by 30 November 2008. Successful applicants will be notified by 31 December 2008 and undertake the Fellowship in 2009.
