Tracy joined the University of Canberra in February 2009 as Senior Lecturer in Cultural Heritage. She previously led the Canberra office of Godden Mackay Logan, Heritage Consultants and is an archaeologist and heritage practitioner with over twenty years of practical experience covering a broad range of heritage based research, policy, planning and conservation management of a diverse range of places.

A feature of Tracys professional practice has been her work on social heritage values, Indigenous historic sites, complex cultural and natural places she has also developed GIS methodologies to use in heritage research and management planning. Tracy has prepared heritage management plans for nationally significant places such as the Australian War Memorial, Lake Burley Griffin, the Old Great North Road and the Defence lands of Jervis Bay.

Tracy graduated with Honours in Archaeology from the University of Sydney in 1984 and then worked for the Museum of Applied Arts and Science developing exhibitions for the new Power House Museum. She then joined the NSW Heritage Council and Department of Planning where she eventually became the Senior Archaeologist. Tracy gained her PhD from the University of Sydney in 2002her thesis was entitled An Artefact of Nation: Historical Archaeology, Heritage and Nationalism in Australia. Her most recent book, co-edited with Jane Lydon, Object Lessons: Archaeology and Heritage in Australia, was published in 2005.

Tracys research interests include all aspects of historical archaeology and heritage management, ethics in archaeology and conservation, the cultural politics of the past, contact history and archaeology, the interpretation of archaeological sites, cultural landscapes and landscape archaeology.
