Dr Jeff Brownrigg holds a D Phil from the University of York, UK, approached via a B Phil in Medieval Studies and an M Phil. in Music. Before this he completed a BA (Hons) at La Trobe University where he was a foundation student. For twenty years he held senior positions at the National Film and Sound Archive, producing and publishing numerous historic re-releases of Australian heritage film and sound materials. He was one of the Commonwealth Heads of Conservation for several years. At various times he has been President and Vice President of the Association of Australasian Sound Archives and also editor of this organizations journal. His research interests include: the Irish in Australia, the intangible heritage of colonial Australia (especially convict heritage), music and society, the early history of museums, the rise of the National Trust (UK) and Australias sound, still and moving image history. Past publications includes books about Australian sectarianism and singing as represented in the life and career of soprano Amy Castles and the Irish in Australia. His next book, an account of the life of Signaller Tom Skeyhill the Blind Soldier-Poet of World War I and biographer of Americas most decorated WW I veteran, Alvin C York, will be released in November 2009
