How can you participate?

You must achieve a minimum of 100 points for domestic students and 80 points for international students to be eligible for the Canberra Award and must achieve points in all the following four areas:

  1. Academic development (What skills have you gained from studying your degree course that you can use in the future 20 points)
  2. Work experience - paid or voluntary (What did you do? What did you gain from doing it? up to 40 points)
  3. Service to the university or community (What did you do? What did you gain from doing it? up to 40 points)
  4. Elective short courses (What did you do? What did you gain from doing it? up to 40 points)
Gaining work experience in an office environment

Once you have reached 100/80 points you can apply to be granted the Award when you graduate. At this point you must provide evidence consisting of a portfolio, a professional résumé  and a two page reflection on your own journey of personal development.

The Careers Service runs workshops throughout the year which can be considered as elective short courses. Topics included work-ready issues some of which might be time management, interview training, résumé preparation and workplace ethics. Students are encouraged to think outside the box when selecting elective short courses.

It is compulsory for students to attend an information session on the Canberra Award, preferably in the same semester they register.
