Collaboration with the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT)

The University of Canberra has a close relationship with the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT). A Memorandum of Understanding between the two institutions was first signed in 1989 and the current one is in place until September 2007.

The aim of the MOU is to:

  • assist students to transfer easily between the two institutions through arrangements for admission and credit transfer; and
  • make better use of educational resources.

The UC-CIT Liaison Committee was established in 2000 to provide a forum for communication between the two institutions jointly chaired by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Canberra and the Chief Executive of CIT which meets twice a year.

The Joint Status Committee meets three times a year to facilitate credit transfer for students seeking articulation into courses at the University of Canberra and is jointly chaired by the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the University of Canberra and the Dean of Learning Services, CIT.

The total number of credit transfer arrangements between CIT courses and courses more than 100 and are available on the UC Pathways Website.

In a major new development the University of Canberra was granted a DEST Collaboration and Structural Reform Grant in 2006 for the project Beyond Articulation which will explore ways in which pathways and opportunities for students between the two institutions can be enhanced.

For more information about UC's Collaboration with CIT please contact Professor John Dearn, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic).
