If you are having difficulty finding enough material – try searching the Library catalogue using keywords like the name of your intended profession (accounting, business, law, etc) and a term like “ethics” or “research.”

Business Source Complete or Academic Source Complete may be good databases to try for academic articles on this topic. You should also look at the relevant subject guide for your profession.

Finally – make sure that you can’t be accused of plagiarism yourself! Make sure that you use references to show where you are quoting someone else’s words or ideas – the Library provides access to referencing guides.

First semester? Try these tips to get a head start on your classmates! :)

First semester? Get a head start on your classmates to breeze through your assignments!

1. Attend the free training courses at UC Library – these include orientation tours, how to use the Library’s online resources to find academic information (including over 40,ooo online journals and 5000 ebooks), and how to reference for assignments. The Academic Skills Centre in Building 5 also runs courses and offers one-on-one appointments to help with assignment writing and study skills – reserve your place early as the sessions are very popular.

2. Use the Library’s catalogue to search for books on your mobile phone and save a handy list of titles and call numbers. Visit the catalogue on your mobile to be redirected to the mobile-optimised page – this will also prompt you to download the app for iPhone or Android.

3. Join local libraries: the National Library lets you order books in advance from your iPhone or computer, the Public Library has a range of online material and will deliver your books to any branch for free

4. Get your class readings from E-Reserve (online) and the Short Loan section of the Library

5. If you use Google Scholar, set your library preferences to include University of Canberra. Google Scholar will include free direct links to any articles that UC subscribes to (otherwise can be $30 or more per article). This works automatically on campus.

6. Find out if the past exam papers for your class are available online for study purposes

7. Ask for research help early – come in to the Research Assistance Desk, phone, email or use the online Chat with a Librarian service!
