Australian Sporting Industry Short Course
Spend three weeks in Australia and get full study credit.
The University of Canberra offers you a unique opportunity to explore aspects of Australia’s sporting industry, including kinesiology, coaching, training, management, motivation and media at UC’s National Institute of Sports Studies.
You’ll also spend three days at the nearby Australian Institute of Sport, home to elite Australian and international athletes.
Relaxation includes an amazing dolphin adventure, beautiful beaches, stunning scenery and a seat at an Australian Rules football game.
Program Overview
The program is taught by staff from the National Institute of Sports Studies. It integrates different aspects of the sporting industry, from technical components of training and coaching through to how the media influences the Australian sporting culture. It focuses on providing participants with an interactive learning experience by incorporating both theoretical and practical knowledge.
Location
This course will introduce you to three completely different Australian experiences.
Melbourne
The tour will visit Melbourne, capital of the state of Victoria, and considered to be Australia’s ‘cultural capital’. It hosts many world class exhibitions and festivals and major sporting events. While here you’ll have the opportunity to experience the spectacular action of an Australian Football League (AFL) match.
Canberra
Canberra is Australia’s capital city, with many national monuments and museums. It’s a leafy city surrounded by natural bush areas where you can watch wild kangaroos. (The University of Canberra campus has its own resident population.) It’s a cosmopolitan city with many restaurants, bars, shops, events and festivals.
It is also home to the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), a world class sporting facility where many elite athletes from Australia and overseas train.
Students will spend three days at the AIS participating in a range of events including lectures and training sessions presented by athletes, trainers, coaches and sports specialists from the AIS.
Cairns
Cairns is the closest gateway to the Great Barrier Reef - the world’s largest, most spectacular coral reef system - where diving, snorkeling, sailing, cruising and island hopping are a part of everyday life,. It is the only place on earth where two World Heritage-listed areas meet (the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest). Cairns is 1495 miles north of Sydney or 1585 miles north of Australia's capital city, Canberra
Entry Requirements
The course is open to all students of at least sophomore/second year university standing. It may be of particular interest to students studying any facet of kinesiology, sport, management or media, but it is open to students of all backgrounds and majors.
Credit
Upon completion of the assessment, the University of Canberra will issue an official academic transcript, the equivalent to six university credit points which may be equivalent for 2 courses/classes/modules.
