Gede Arya Wiryana
Alumni Excellence Business Government & Law Finalist

Master of Human Resource Management, 2013

Gede Arya Wiryana is a civil servant as a Mediator of Industrial Relations who was awarded an AusAid Scholarship to study in Australia.  Since graduating from UC and returning to Indonesia, Gede has been serving for the equal treatment of persons with disabilities. His expertise in employment law for more than 10 years and the human resource management skills he learnt at UC have enabled him to draft employment legislation that supports persons with disabilities. This initiative is well recognised by the Minister of Workforce of the Republic of Indonesia, as well as the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and many organisations of disability.

It is the first Indonesian legislation of its kind that provides comprehensive regulations on all areas of employment, including recruitment, selection, career development, training, and other accessibility needs which support equal opportunity for persons with disabilities. In preparing the legislation Gede believes that a state shall safeguard and promote the realisation of the right to work.

Gede has received awards from the UNESCO and the international organisation - Decentralization Support Facility (DSF) supported by the Indonesian Ministry of Home Affairs for his ground-breaking work.
