Despite her young age, Alex Garlan is already an award-winning female leader in the male-dominated field of building and construction management. She has worked as the only female construction project manager in two major companies and has served as the president of the ACT chapter of the Australian Institute of Builders Young Builders Alliance.

Alex is also the co-inventor of smart phone application 'SignOnSite', which enables workers to sign on and off a construction site using their smart phone and be found easily in times of emergency. The software has been awarded over $125,000 in government and business grants and prizes in recognition of its innovation and potential to save lives.

In recognition of her achievements, Alex won Young Innovator of the Year at the ACT Australian Information Industry Association's iAwards in 2015. In 2014, she won the Outstanding Achievement in the Construction Industry Award from the National Association of Women in Construction.
