My week at work- the Account Manager

Since finishing her Bachelor of Advertising and Marketing Communications at the University of Canberra in 2012, Lauren Shelley has quickly established herself in the world of advertising as an account manager.

Far from the smoke-filled bars and meetings over scotch glamorised by Mad Men, the opportunity to work with leading creatives and some of Australia's biggest companies means Lauren's life is no less interesting.

Lauren is currently a Senior Account Manager with The Monkeys, an independent creative agency based in Sydney. Having worked with brands such as UBET, Vaalia, OAK, Telstra, Griffith University, Australand, QLD Government and Macquarie Group, Lauren has been involved in some of Australia's most recognisable advertising campaigns.

In less than ten years The Monkeys has quickly established itself as one of the nations' leading agencies, working with some of Australia's largest brands to deliver a number of well known advertising and marketing campaigns.

My job might be a little cooler than I thought!

Best known for their "Richie's barbecue" TV ad promoting Australian Lamb, coining the term EOFYS for Foxtel, appearances on the Gruen Transfer, and their recent flying monkey and horses commercials for Bingle car insurance, the agency with more than 90 employees has also won a swag of awards for their cutting-edge creativity.

To see just how far the world of advertising account management has come since the days of Pete Campbell and Roger Sterling on Maddison Avenue, we gave Lauren a camera and asked her to document a week in the life of an Account Manager at The Monkeys.

"Taking the pictures made me realise that my job might be a little cooler than I thought" laughed Lauren.

"But I really love what I do. I am also  a firm believer that the UC sets you up really well for a comms career, so I have them to thank a lot for what I get to do now"

Office Picture

This is an aerial view of our office space in Surry Hills. The office itself, the old Sydney Antique Center, has that converted Warehouse look. It's a pretty cool place to work!

Perks of the job

Breakfast

Free Breakfast, what a perk! It's also a very pretty free breakfast! This was a part of a fortnightly breakfast meeting we have where they bribe us to come in early with food.

The office dog

Peaches the dog

Peach is our super cute office puppy who helps us to write emails and attends conference calls. You can even follow her on Instagram!

Training day out of the office

Icebergs

This was taken at Icebergs in Bondi where we were doing a Content Management Training Session out of the office. What a view!

Reward for a job well done

Helicopter 1

We were given a helicopter ride by our media agency for all the work we had done with a client. The ride was in a Traffic Helicopter for 15 minutes over the Sydney city and Harbour, very cool!

Helicopter 2

Learning from the world's best

Google

Google came in to present to the whole office about their products and how they can help us. Cool company, cool space and impressive with over 100 people listening in!

Would you like to share a week at work with your fellow alumni? We'd love to hear from you! Simply send us an email and we'll be in touch. And don't forget to check out the many different cool and interesting things our graduates are doing on our blog.
