Ben PollackBen Pollack

Media manager, Canberra Raiders, Canberra

2005 - graduated with a Bachelor of Sports Media from the University of Canberra.

Canberra Raiders media manager Ben Pollack is working in the job of his dreams after only graduating from the University of Canberra in 2005. Ben has been a big Raiders fan his entire life but credits his time at the University of Canberra, as much as his knowledge of the team, for landing the job.

“I have been lucky to land such a high profile position after university, and I credit a lot of where I am to the sports media degree and in particular my sports journalism lecturer Cathy Reid,” he says.

He landed the job with the NRL club after impressing management while on work experience last year.

I always wanted to be a sports commentator. I often used to (and still do) argue with some of the opinions of some of the so-called experts.

My best memories of UC are all the people I met and the good times I had.

My first job out of uni was as Canberra Raiders media manager. A dream job for me really, a great bunch of people and an exciting place to work.

My career highlight was, and still is working with my favourite football team.

After this, who knows, maybe a career in magazines or radio. I have a good head for radio.

Today I am working hard at preparing for the season ahead. We have a huge year planned with plenty happening.

In the future I want to be happy and content with the job I have as I am now. You have to spend half your life at it so it may as well be fun.

AND JUST FOR FUN...

My hero is Laurie Daley.

My favourite food is Nan’s roast dinners.

My favourite band is U2.

At the moment I read five newspapers a day, so I don’t read many novels any more.

If I ruled the world I would probably retire.
