Disability Standards Information

The University of Canberra is dedicated to providing appropriate and reasonable adjustments for people with disabilities as set out in the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and subsequent Disability Standards in Education 2005. This is primarily managed by UC AccessAbility.

The University offers annual training on the Disability Standards for Education 2005 for all staff of the University. All staff of the University are invited to complete training to inform them of their obligations with respect to the Disability Standards for Education. This is a compliance requirement that the University of Canberra takes very seriously.

Provision of this training is part of the required duty-of-care to all staff of the University of Canberra.

If you would like more information about the Disability Standards, the training available or how to support students with disabilities studying at the University of Canberra please contact the Manager UC AccessAbility on 6201 2683 or Melanie.Kovacs@canberra.edu.au

HEADS-UP: Higher Educators Advancing Disability Standards – Universities online Project

The University of Canberra is committed to providing a quality education to all students, including those with disability. To help achieve this goal, the University of Canberra and the Australian National University are developing and trialing an online resource to provide convenient and flexible training in the Disability Standards for Education. Following your input, the online training will be made available to all Australian universities in 2012.

Training in the Disability Standards helps the University meet its legal obligations. If you chose to complete an additional short pre-post questionnaire you are eligible to receive a Certificate of Completion which you can use as evidence of professional development in equity issues. Your name will also be drawn out of the hat for an iPad, air travel, weekend retreat or movie vouchers. At the end of the training you will have the option of providing further information via a focus group but you do not have to do this.

Further information is in the Information for Participants which can be found at http://www.dsetraining.org.au/
