University of Canberra closure

5 January 2020

Due to hazardous air quality and power shortages caused by the NSW bush fires, the University of Canberra Bruce campus will be on shut-down for 48 hours effective from 5pm AEDT on Sunday 5 January to all but essential staff and residents. Updates will be provided via website and social media.

Medical and Counselling, Security and other essential services will remain open. The Medical and Counselling centre on campus remains open in Building 1, Level B or call (02) 6201 2351.

In this unprecedented situation, we acknowledge that many in the UC Community may be affected—particularly those who are or have been fighting fires. Support services are available to both staff and students, with more information provided on how to access these via email.

With the unpredictable weather conditions, it is important for staff to remain on alert for any potential fires and road closures that may impact your safety. Further updates can be found at http://esa.act.gov.au and www.livetraffic.com.

The ACT Health Directorate has provided health advice which can be found here. The advice is applicable to and helpful for anyone currently experiencing issues with air quality in and around their region. We encourage you to follow the advice.
