UC lecture on reclaiming traditional foods

17 December 2015: Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies research fellow, Stewart Sutherland and Tim Stevenson from Food Matters Manitoba spoke about the reclamation of traditional foods in Indigenous communities in the latest UC CIRI seminar presented by the University and Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies.

Mr Sutherland and Mr Stevenson discuss how the Indigenous identity is inherent in the land and shared through traditional food activities in their 2 November guest lecture at the University. They cover issues around the loss of traditional food practices and the decline in the sharing of culture and lore, along with other life skills, and how it has left Indigenous communities seeking to reclaim traditional customs including food harvesting.
