Gaze returns for second season with UC Capitals

Amanda Jones

7 June 2017: The University of Canberra Capitals are delighted to welcome back Kate Gaze for the 2017/18 WNBL season.

The talented guard has signed a one-year deal with the club.

Gaze joined the UC Capitals last season after winning back-to-back championships with the Townsville Fire. She had an immediate impact on and off the court, winning the inaugural Fan Favourite award.

The 27-year-old is currently contesting the Queensland Basketball League with Logan Thunder and is averaging 26 points and four rebounds a game.

Gaze said she was looking forward to returning to Canberra.

“I had a really great time with the UC Capitals last season,” Gaze said.

“I enjoyed getting on the floor more and increasing my minutes. I think my game improved and I’m looking forward to making more progress this coming season.”

UC Capitals head coach Paul Goriss said retaining Gaze was a key recruitment strategy from the outset.

“Kate brings leadership, championship-winning experience and a strong presence on court to our young team,” Goriss said.

“She is dangerous from the three-point line and last season kept us in games at times with her outstanding shooting ability.

“Kate continues to work hard on her game and brings consistency and continuity to our playing group alongside Abbey Wehrung and Keely Froling.

“We are excited to have Kate back in UC Capitals colours for another season.”
