UC students selected for World University Games

19 April 2017: Three students from the University of Canberra will represent Australia at the 29th Summer Universiade in Taipei later this year.

Olympian Rachel Tallent (20 kilometre walk), Jordan Gusman (1,500 metre) and Bryce Anderson (10,000 metre) were named among the 34 athletes who will make up Australia’s track and field team.

Tallent has fond memories of the event, winning a bronze medal in the 20 kilometre team walk in Gwangju, South Korea in 2015.

Athletics Australia Chairman of Selectors Dion Russell said the Universiade gave young athletes a taste of what it was like to compete on the world stage.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for Australia’s up-and-coming athletes to be exposed to the rigours of international competition,” Mr Russell said.

“Athletics has a proud history of success at the Universiade and I am confident that the team we have selected can build on this tradition.”

The 2017 Summer Universiade will take place 19-30 August.
