Claudia Doman

25 May 2016: The University of Canberra College (UCC) has appointed experienced international higher education leader Jo Asquith as its director and principal.

Ms Asquith, who commences in her role this week, has extensive experience in domestic and international education, including roles in primary schools, universities and Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS).

For the past five years, Ms Asquith has been director of Future Students and International at James Cook University. Ms Asquith has also held senior positions in student mobility, marketing and admissions and was International director at Southern Cross University, where she was an Education lecturer for six years.

Ms Asquith chaired the Australian Universities International Directors' Forum (AUIDF) from 2010 to 2015.  In October 2015, she was elected onto the Board of the International Education Association of Australia (IEAA).

University of Canberra Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Frances Shannon welcomed the appointment.

"Jo Asquith's broad international experience will help further the delivery of quality education by the University of Canberra College, paving the way for students to access a university degree," Professor Shannon said.

"Her expertise will also assist in expanding the offering of UCC's programs further around the world."

UCC provides quality university pathways and English-language diploma courses to international and domestic students, who can then continue their studies in degree courses at the University of Canberra.

The College enrols approximately 1,300 university pathway students and 900 English language students annually. Its diploma programs include business, business informatics, communication, design, information technology and science.

UCC operates under a partnership between the University of Canberra and global education services provider Navitas.
