Newsroom staff

26 April 2016: Local and federal elections may still be a few months away, but the battle lines are being drawn and a group of informed Canberrans dissected and discussed the parties' platforms at the University of Canberra's first Canberra Conversations event for 2016 on 14 April.

The University's Institute for Governance and Policy Analysis (IGPA) presents the regular public seminars to discuss issues of importance in the local community.

In this public event, the expert panel deliberated on what key federal and ACT election issues will be critical to the public and why, and what we can expect from the coming months of campaigning.

The Election(s) Canberra Conversation was hosted by ABC journalist and IGPA's adjunct professor, Virginia Haussegger AM.

Panelists included:

  • Fairfax media ACT politics reporter, Kirsten Lawson;
  • CityNews owner and editor, Ian Meikle AM;
  • Canberra Times columnist and emeritus professor of political science in the School of Politics and International Relations at the Australian National University, John Warhurst AO; and
  • Former Canberra Times Editor-at-Large, Jack Waterford AM.
