17 April 2015: The University of Canberra has joined two new national networks to address climate change adaptation research within the National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility (NCCARF).
The first network, based at the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC), will focus on the social, economic and institutional dimensions of climate change adaptation.

The University of Canberra has joined two national networks to help Australia adapt to the effects of climate change with a focus on the impact on urban environments, such as the Gold Coast.
USC sustainability research centre director Tim Smith said the network aimed to boost innovative research activities and applications across five themes: industry, government, Indigenous, non-government organisations and governance integration.
Chair of urban and regional planning at the University of Canberra Barbara Norman will lead research activities under the government theme which will examine changes that will directly affect the nation.
"This is a great opportunity for CURF and the University of Canberra and I hope the outcomes of our research will help shape government policy into the future. Our proximity to the Federal Government and links to the ACT Government gives us an advantage as we explore climate change adaptation," Professor Norman, who is also director of Canberra Urban and Regional Futures (CURF) based at the University of Canberra, said.
The University has also joined the Australian Climate Change Adaptation Research Network for Settlements and Infrastructure (ACCARNSI) hosted by the University of New South Wales.
Professor Norman said CURF’s contribution to the ACCARNSI network will be looking closely at issues around urban and regional planning, coastal and urban governance.
As part of the network, early career researchers from across the nation will be able to attend a three-day workshop at the University of Canberra in February 2016, to learn more about climate change adaptation research.
