New Executive Dean of Faculty of Arts and Design has eye to the future

3 July 2019: With an ethos of remaining agile and resilient in the face of rapid technological, social and cultural change, incoming Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Design (FAD) at the University of Canberra, Professor Jason Bainbridge is the ideal person to steer the creative faculty through a new era of Canberra’s development.

Professor Bainbridge holds degrees in Arts and Law and a PhD in Cultural Studies from the University of Queensland.

Professor Bainbridge is excited to be joining the University of Canberra at this stage in the University’s evolution, developing the diversity of the faculty’s programs and the options for combination with other areas of UC and the broader Canberra workforce.

“The topography of Canberra matched with UC’s vision for work integrated learning and campus development provides so many opportunities for our staff, students and partners in the years ahead.”

“I look forward to working with staff to grow our Faculty by building on our existing strengths across teaching and research, enhancing our profile and reputation and developing partnerships with government, industry and the local community, through the creative solutions that we can offer.”

He has previously held academic positions at the University of Tasmania, University of South Australia and Swinburne University of Technology where he has exemplified a strong commitment to leadership across teaching and research, industry engagement, enabling staff to flourish and enriching the student experience.

Professor Bainbridge has published widely on strategic communication, media and merchandising, popular culture and the law across multiple books, book chapters and journal articles and is a regular media commentator.

Professor Bainbridge will commence as Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Design on 20 August 2019.
