Study a Bachelor of Health Studies at UC and you will develop a thorough knowledge of health and social care with the option of selecting from a number of different majors; attain knowledge and skills for further learning in a variety of health disciplines; apply knowledge of core health care principles to contemporary health issues; develop and apply critical analysis skills to contemporary health issues; demonstrate effective basic technical and communication skills for health professionals and work autonomously and in teams within the broad health parameters covered in the degree, to provide care to others within the health industry.
Bachelor of Health Studies
From Semester 1, 2016 we offer a Bachelor of Health Studies. This is an accessible degree with a broad vocational orientation, designed to help students gain employment in a health related areas, health care settings, community organisations or to prepare for other areas of study. The degree offers a broad based understanding of Health related issues and context and is suited to those who are not yet sure which path to take. It includes opportunity for research, work placements and further study.
The study program includes core units in biology, anatomy and physiology, psychology, nursing care, counselling, evidence based medicine and professional practice. These are supplemented with electives drawn from Applied Psychology, Counselling Studies, Human Nutrition, Midwifery Professional Theory, Public Health, Pharmaceutical Science, Health and Physical Education or Pre-Physiotherapy. Students who complete the degree with a GPA of 5.5 may be eligible for enrolment in the Bachelor of Health Science (Honours) course or may seek to transfer units to a specialist degree.
