Biography

Michaela Vergano, BEd Humanities (CCE), Grad Dip EXPA (UNSW), M Inclusive Ed (UC)

Michaela has a breadth of experience as an educational professional, having worked for over 20 years in Catholic, Independent and Tertiary institutions.  Predominantly working in the secondary sphere in both New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory, she has facilitated and delivered a variety of seminars, lectures and presentations on Students with Disability and Diverse Needs and Teaching English across many educational environments including the University of Canberra, the Australian Catholic University and the University of Sydney. Michaela held the position of Inclusive Education Coordinator at a Secondary School in Canberra. As well, she worked as a Learning Support Curriculum Officer for Catholic Education – Canberra Goulburn.

Michaela’s Educational Doctorate research at UC in Pedagogical Content Knowledge and inclusive practices builds on her Master of Educational Leadership studies (ACU) and Master of Inclusive Education Degree (UC) where she developed an interest in leading teaching and learning in inclusive schools.

Michaela is a registered teacher in the ACT holding professional memberships with the Australian Council for Educational Leaders, the Australian Association of Special Educators, and the Australian Association for the Teaching of English. Michaela’s commitment to improving teacher knowledge and understanding around students with disability saw her recognised through the inaugural Exemplary Service Award from Autism Aspergers ACT for outstanding contribution to improving the lives of children with ASD and to teachers’ professional development programs. She is a trained facilitator for the national Positive Partnerships project which has a goal to improve the educational outcomes of school-aged students on the autism spectrum.
