Over the past twenty years Dr Jo Caffery worked with remote Indigenous adults, across northern Australia, teaching linguistics skills so Indigenous people could document and maintain their own traditional languages.
During this time she was the Coordinator/Senior Lecturer of the Centre for Australian Languages and Linguistics where she developed culturally appropriate and relevant curricula and teaching materials. Jo's PhD reviewed linguistics courses specifically designed for Indigenous adults from an Indigenous grassroots perspective.
Jo has taught linguistics at the Australian National University before joining University of Canberra where she teachers pre-service teachers the skills to embed Indigenous and TESL perspectives in their unit and lesson plans. Jo's research interests include linguistic and cultural diversity and bilingual education.
