Following several years as a high school teacher, Geoff completed his PhD at the Department of Educational Policy Studies at the University of Alberta. His thesis and early research was on professional collaboration and its relation to improving teaching and learning. His thesis won the T.B Greenfield Award in Canada.
Geoff's research and teaching has focused on educational policy, leadership and management. He has conducted research on student welfare and discipline and this work had a significant impact on policy and practice in NSW. His more recent focus has been on education reform in China and on internationalization of higher education curriculum. He has presented invited papers at international conferences on these topics. Prior to his appointment as the founding Dean of the Faculty of Education, Science, Technology and Mathematics, Geoff served as Dean of the Faculty of Education at UC. Before that Geoff held appointments at Macquarie University and UTS. At UTS he held several positions including as Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
In addition to his role as Professor and Dean at the University of Canberra, Geoff is a Senior Research Fellow at the Asia Pacific Centre for Leadership and Change and the Chair of the University of Canberra Union.
