Biography

Dr Sam Hinton has 20 years experience in web and internet-related media.  Sam first started developing for the web back in 1993 when he downloaded NCSA Mosaic via a telnet FTP session.  He's been studying and promoting the web ever since.  From 1995 Sam worked at the ANU in the Centre for Networked Information and Publishing as the ANU's "web master".  He left that job to do his PhD in 1998 (which was about the internet – you can find it online if you need something to help you sleep!).  In 2003 Sam joined the University of Canberra as a lecturer in Media/Multimedia production, which is pretty much where the web was at until 2013 when he and Dr Geoff Hinchcliffe created the Bachelor of Web Design and Production.  Sam has a long history with HTML and CSS, and is pretty happy if he can sit down somewhere with a nice cup of coffee and a new Javascript framework to explore.  He is also the co-author of "Understanding Social Media" (2013) and is an active researcher in technical and social aspects of the web and internet technologies.
