Grants & Awards

• 2012 FAD Mico-Linkage grant with the Australian Paralympic Committee
  Entitled "Design as a tool for influencing a positive branding of disability in Australia," the project entails the production of design and communication tools for the Paralympic Games in London 2012.
  
• 2011 Short-listed for the Bar Tur Award, University of the Arts London
  The Bar Tur Award is an annual photography competition sponsored by the University of the Arts, London. It is open to all alumni from the University of the Arts. The award recognises excellence in the area of photography and emphasises a connection to Lifestyle, Environment, Identities, and Communication in photographic practice. A panel of significant international photographers judges the competition. Shortlisted applicants and finalists for the alumni section of the Bar Tur are all professional photographers with established practices. I submitted a series of photographs entitled "Meet me at the Mall" to this competition, which highlighted the changing lifestyles of the American public. The series was shortlisted in the Lifestyle category of the competition.
• 2011 Short-listed for the Poster for Tomorrow Competition, Paris France
  The Poster for Tomorrow competition is an annual international competition that focuses on highlighting human rights issues through the medium of the poster. The competition is sponsored by the Conseil de l'Europe and supported by UNESCO. A panel of esteemed international graphic designers shortlist posters based on their adherence to the theme and the technical ability of the designer. The series of posters that I designed for this competition focused on the Right to Education and were shortlisted in the top 300 from a pool of over 2780 entries from 45 countries around the world.
• 2010 Innovative Teaching and Learning Leaders (ITALLS) Grant, University of Canberra
  The ITALLS programme is sponsored by Teaching and Learning and aims to highlight and support teachers that have successfully integrated blended and innovative teaching strategies in to their teaching practice. Participants in the programme come from all faculties of the University and disseminate their findings to the university through workshops, presentations and publication. I was selected as a 2010 recipient of this grant and utilized the funding to research new methods for delivering blended learning in the Graphic Design discipline.
• 2010 Finalist in the AGDA (Australian Graphic Design Association) Poster Annual
  The AGDA poster annual is a competition that brings together top practitioners in Graphic Design in Australia. A jury of esteemed local and international poster designers of the highest standing select winning posters. My work entitled "Good Design" was selected in the top thirty designs from over 200 entries Australia-wide. The poster was displayed at Southbank in Brisbane for the duration of Icograda International Design week.
• 2009 1st Place in the Fine Arts Category of the Prix de la Photographie Paris (Px3) and winner of the People's Choice Award in the Fine Arts Category
  According to CameraArts Magazine, "Px3 is Europe's biggest and most prestigious photography competition." The competition brings together a panel of esteemed international photographers and selected winners in the categories Advertising, Books and Book Proposals, Press, Fine Art, Nature and Portraiture are exhibited in a high-profile gallery in Paris. Winning photographs are published in the high-quality, full colour Px3 annual book. World famous professional photographers such as Erwin Olaf have been previous winners of this competition. The photographic series "Visions of Utopia," which I produced collaboratively with Melbourne-based photographer Frances Tatarovic, was selected for the 1st prize in the Fine Arts Category of the Px3. The series mixed photographic and graphic design techniques to replicate Chinese Propaganda Posters, making a statement about the current state of visual culture in Mainland China. The work was displayed with the winning entries in Paris and the series was published in the Px3 2009 book.
